A. The Code Enforcement Officer's authority shall include the following:

1. Periodically patrols or inspects all areas of the City to monitor for violations of the Municipal Code.

2. Respond to complaints of potential municipal code violations relating to signing, building occupancy, nuisances, housing conditions, construction, dumping, recycling, clearing, grading, filling, polluting, or other matters regulated by provisions of the George Municipal Code.

3. Conduct field investigations of potential municipal code violations; gather evidence; interview complainants, witnesses and respondents; compare facts to code requirements; make findings; and issue warnings, correction notices, or infractions.

4. Meet with owners, tenants, contractors, developers, businesses, and the citizens to review and explain code requirements and violations or potential violations; secures code compliance.

5. Draft and distributes a variety of correspondence, memoranda, notices and reports relating to code enforcement issues and actions.

6. Provide information to persons who request information or assistance in code enforcement related matters.

7. Maintain a variety of logs and records related to inspection and enforcement activities; prepares recommendations for amendments and addition to codes or regulations which relate to the position.

8. Coordinate efforts with the County Sheriff, City planning, building and related departments, and other staff or agencies as needed.

9. Along with the City Attorney, review cases being prepared for trial with emphasis on the evidentiary and legal issues crucial to successful prosecution; prepares detailed reports of activities and investigations made; consult with prosecutors and prepare case reports for court action; testifies in court.

10. Assist in obtaining, enhancing, preparing or presenting exhibits or other evidence in court as required.

11. Enforce all facets of the municipal code not otherwise enforced by other agencies.
